Plurilingualism
Plurilingualism and AALE
Plurilingualism is a central feature of AALE. While multilingualism is the coexistence of different languages, plurilingualism is an individual’s ever-changing linguistic repertoire, valuing all language knowledge—no matter how limited. From a plurilingual perspective, every language and dialect is viewed as a mental, social, and pedagogical resource.
This approach fosters cultural openness, metalinguistic awareness, and learner agency, allowing teachers and students to build on their full linguistic and cultural diversity. To support this, AALE provides:
- Professional development resources
- Sample activities
- Classroom guidance materials

AALE Infosheets
These series of infosheets designed by the AALE team introduce or provide deeper knowledge about Plurilingualism. The infosheets offer:
- Bite‑sized definitions and classroom tips
- Deeper dives into research and strategies
- Extended explorations with case studies, policy discussions, and advanced resources
